Chanelling Mommylo

JCPenney dress, Payless sandals, Laoag tote

This outfit makes me reminisce of my late grandmother’s photos when she was about my age. That would’ve been around the 60s. For as long as I remember, she always sported short, curly hair. I need to snatch me one of her old photos from my grandfather and scan it. :D She was really beautiful. She passed on when I was 10, but I’m still trying to make her proud. She was headstrong, generous, and beyond faithful. I’m nowhere near any of those qualities, but I hope I’m still making her happy!

I love this dress. It has pockets. Pockets, you guys! That makes me irrationally happy. LOL And here’s the tote bag my dad got for me during their trip to Laoag. Thanks Dad! :D It’s super cute! I especially love the little heart charm on the handle. I need to take a close up pic.

I Kid

Divisoria shirt, Mossimo shorts, Converse sneakers, Hot Topic wristwarmers, thrifted necklace

My little sister, who gets sassier and sassier each day, keep teasing me about looking old. Oi, kids today. So here, I’m dressed like a 12 year old. How do you like me now, Den?

My parents share the same sentiments though. My dad says I’ve matured since he last saw me last year. I took that as a compliment. My mom says short hair makes girls in our family look older. But I love short hair. :P

A lot of people seem really obsessed with looking young though. This issue may be more relevant to older women, but girls in their 20s? I know one girl who takes being told she looks like 10 as a compliment. Uuhh… who wants to look like jailbait? When I was 10, I was awkward and lanky. I don’t wanna go back to that, thank you very much.

I would rather age gracefully than be obsessed with trying to look ten or twenty years younger. Don’t deny your age. :P I wish I looked and sounded like my age. I have a voice of a little girl, and guess what? No one takes me seriously. Not even if I speak and act intelligent or worldly. When I get genuinely annoyed or angry, people just pat me on the head and call me cute. ARGH. My little girl voice cuts me short of my efforts. Yeah yeah, sometimes it comes in handy (pout till you get what you want, you get to be the grownups’ favorite), but I don’t want to rely on appearances all the time. I want to become more than what the surface dictates me as. Sigh~

The Great Work Begins

I just spent my entire evening watching HBO's Angels in America. It's the best series I've ever watched, hands down. It's hilarious, heart wrenching, inspiring, deliciously quotable, and totally owns. Everyone needs to watch it. It's just so amazing. ♥

Elfen Lied is one violent story, but you can't deny that this song is absolutely beautiful.

Mommy Dress

SM dress, Schu oxfords, mom's pearl bracelets

More 50’s housewife dresses, hooray! My mom got me this dress when my parents were visiting a few weeks ago. Thanks Mom! My parents actually got me a lot of stuff from home when they came, not to mention all the others I bought when I was with them. Hehehe~ I’m unveiling all my new stuff one by one. Next up is a lovely tote bag from my dad!

Anyway, this whole tanning thing isn’t working out so well. I’m just turning red and my skin stings. Then I go back to normal. Waaaaaaiiii.

Inverted

??? top, Old Navy shorts, Payless wedges, mom's pearl bracelets

This outfit is an inverted version of my previous one, if you look closely. Hehehe. This outfit looked grossly overexposed in my usual spot, so I tried a different place to take pics. Our study lounge looks like a good spot, but I’m too shy to take pictures in public all the time~ Anyhoo, this outfit looks and feels really slouchy. It’s so so so so so hot here, and it shows in what I’m wearing. I’m just kicking back until I can bear the heat~

Trying Science

xkcd shirt, Old Navy shorts, Aldo sandals, Claire's wristwarmers

Some people may not be fans of graphic tees, but the simple scientific fact is XKCD > YOU. And this shirt is awesome and it totally describes me. You see, I’m known to be clumsy, ditzy, and just a wee bit unhinged, but I’m also a Biology major. I like to think I’d make a promising scientist despite all the bacteria culture I’ve accidentally killed in lab and all the acid I’ve spilled on myself (I kid you not, my hands were yellow for a week). I love the research and the experiments and the fieldwork, and I can’t imagine myself doing anything else. Science FTW!

Also have a bit of Naruto vibe going on with the shoes and wristwarmers. :P I even tried doing that little ninja stance, except I didn’t know how the hands were supposed to go, so I did something like a Maskman gesture. I’m not sure I did that right either. Anyway, I don’t really watch Naruto, but my little cousin is a huge fan. Sean, this is for you! :D

Daily Records

The other day, I went to the clinic to have this weird red spot on my right hand checked. I thought it might be a red mole, but the doctor said it's actually an exposed blood vessel. Well, eww. She suggested that dabbing liquid nitrogen on it might shrink it, but it's really not necessary. We tried it anyway. OW OW OW IT HURT. REPEATEDLY. And now I have a huge blister on my hand larger than the blood vessel itself. Hooray~~~ The doctor was very nice though. She's kept doting on me the whole time, and she even got me out of getting charged for the treatment. :D Well, at least it's god to know that the odd red dot on my hand isn't anything dangerous.

Yesterday, the temperature went up to 103°. I decided to walk a mile to Target. Totally a wise choice. Goodness, it was so hot! I found a gorgeous black dress at Target though, and I was beyond heartbroken to find that they didn't have my size. I hope they restock it next week. Someone's gonna get seriously hurt if I don't get that dress! >:( I also had my hair trimmed at a small salon across campus. The girl cut it shorter than I expected, but I'm not dismayed. I just wanted to get the split ends I've been getting off. Now it's off to growing my hair out for the summer. :D

P.S. Sorry guys, I fail at fashion once the degrees get to the three digits.

Catch-Up Post

I'm terrible at keeping up with this blog. I haven't been able to update it as much as I like. I just came from finals week, and summer school has just started for me. Excuses, excuses. :P Anyway, here's a big post to keep you all updated. Lot of pictures so watch out!

My parents came in town from the Philippines for two weeks, and it was like Christmas for me. I'm embarrassed to say just how much stuff I bought while they were here, but that's the whole point of parents visiting, right? :P On my first shopping trip I got a pair of Aldo gladiator sandals and two pairs of cigarette jeans in black and dark blue. I am so on love with them. I also caved and got myself the infamous circle scarf from American Apparel. Very warm and cozy. I've been playing with all its draping possibilities beyond the default instructions, but it seems everything I come up with requires a pin to hold. I better get one soon.

The scarf and jeans in action. Not particularly the most flattering outfit; I'm just playing dress up here.

I was also lucky enough to be able to watch the match between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton last May 2. What an epic fight! You don't need me to tell you how awesome it was, but it was such an awesome experience. I was also able to attend Pacquiao's victory party afterwards. I got a picture with him! Best night ever! What I wore that night:

Warehouse dress, Schu cutout oxfords, Express evening clutch

The shoes are a gift from my mom. Thanks Mom!

Me and Manny, we're tight. LOL It's a little blurry, but I turned off the flash on purpose. My mom, who's been in his company a couple of times, told me how the flashes from all the cameras trying to capture him hurts his eyes, so I wanted to be the cool fan and turned mine off for him. :P I think he appreciated it. ^_____^ (I can dream right?)

Bayo tank top, Jag flared jeans, Mossimo heels

Bench zip-up top, SM shoes and socks, Old Navy shorts, Cebu accessories

Forever 21 ruffled top, Old Navy shorts, Schu cutout oxfords, mom's old accessories

Just a few outfits I've donned for summer school. Please excuse the pale legs. They haven’t seen the light of day all winter. Now that it’s practically summer, it’s time to get my tan on! :D Of course, I wear sunblock everyday and I don’t actually lay out in the sun and fry myself, but I do love that sunkissed “had fun in the sun” look. (Actually, I cheat and use a bronzer. :P) Back in the Philippines, it’s not uncommon to see girls under umbrellas and hiding under the shade to stay white. But for me, summer is all about the tanned look. Can’t wait! It’s also fun to see just how fast my skin turns white again in the winter. :P I wish I can dye my hair a lighter shade too just to complete the whole beachy look I’m going for, but everyone is always talking me out of it.

Final Fantasy and Yoshitaka Amano

Now that I have more free time in the summer, I've been playing a lot of Final Fantasy VI once again. It's my all-time favorite game, but that's another post. Today, I suddenly remembered Yoshitaka Amano's character designs for Final Fantasy. His artwork inspires me madly in all ways possible.
